I feel some people can misuse the program. The characters people invent can do any thing as cyber bulling and get away with it. They will have a perfect excuse because it is not real it is just a cartoon character.
This program might be good for RCMP to keep records and retrieve information or some organizations that will use it for special purposes. But I don’t think people will use it for day to day transactions. There are plenty of people in the world who do not purchase latest digital equipment.

Using second life for demonstrations of experiments would be a great application of the program! It is not always a reality to do all of the experiements as one may like to so this would be a good way to address that problem and still have students experience the experiment though an online application.
ReplyDeleteI had never thought of the cyberbullying problem that would arise with Second Life, but I think this would be a reality that students would not feel responsible for what they are doing because it is not "real" however it may still hurt the vitctim in the same capacity as if it were real.
Yes Durga, I agree with you that there could be great potential for simulating science experiments in this virtual world, but of course like you said we need to learn how to use these as well.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the cyberbullying, it sounds like the teen version of Second Life is monitored pretty strictly, so it may not be as great of a concern if you are using that version of it. One pitfall to watch out for though is if you have students both above and below 18. There is no way to cross over between the two versions, so they could not interact that way.
